Shropshire County Show
The Shropshire County show, held at the West Midlands Showground, was created in the late nineteenth century and has been a booming success ever since. In the early days the show gained popularity when farmers started being their families who also fell in love with the show. It transformed from just being a place for farmers to find out about the latest improvements in techniques and to meet suppliers to somewhere the whole family could enjoy. While farming is still, of course, the beating heart of the show, there is something there for everyone.
The show is usually hosted over a weekend in late May and has a range of entertainment to offer. There will be livestock competitions which aim to showcase the best cattle, sheep and pigs with a few other farm animals too. The farmers compete for the top prize and visitors get to see the finest examples of Shropshire livestock. There will also be vendors who will be showcasing the latest in farming techniques and machinery, it really is a hub for a wealth of industry knowledge. There will also be competitions and floats which have been made by Shropshire’s multiple young farmers’ clubs which aim to encourage the next generation of farmers.
The show hosts a range of food and drink stalls across the site as well as multiple trade and craft stalls. The event has a lot of activities the whole family can participate in such as petting zoos, pony rides, education workshops and interactive exhibits.
